Red Marley Hill climbed!

Red Marley Hill Climb is an action packed day!

The event began during the 1920s in Great Witley, Worcestershire on a hill which is 440 yards (¼ mile) and reaches almost 1:1.5 near the top where there is a challenging jump known as ‘the pimple’.

Riders compete four at a time from a standing start with the first two over the finish line progressing to the next round.

Wulfrun Consulting and Railbroker were thrilled to be the joint sponsors of ‘Team Speed’ for the 2015 Red Marley Hill Climb on Monday 6th April 2015.

On the day, Team Speed’s Greg Speed (Watford) came 1st in Race 72 on his BSA 500 (1967) with a time of 0:24.41

In Race 84 he made 1st place again, but this time with a slightly faster time of 0:24.39

In Race 131 Greg was 1st again with 0:23.97 before a more challenging contest in Race 162 where he made 2nd with 0:24.80

It was 2nd again in Race 162 with 0:24.80 and again in Race 186 with 0:24.21 before calamity struck in Race 190 where a bike failure saw Greg eliminated.

The final result did not detract from what was a truly enjoyable afternoon for all concerned and can only serve to whet the appetite for the 2016 competition!

The Bunker is finished!

The 82045 Steam Locomotive Trust is in the process of building the next member of the extinct Riddles BR 3MT 2-6-2 82000 tank class.

Painting and lining out of the bunker for the new locomotive has now been completed at the workshops of The Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways located in Minffordd, Penrhyndeudraeth and it looks stunning!

You can help too by joining the trust or purchasing merchandise.

The banner for this post is used with permission of the artist and is an extract from a gorgeous illustration by Stephen Millership which is available as a 500 x 700mm poster from the 82045 Steam Locomotive Trust (£22.00 including p&p).

Stephen is available for commissions and examples of his work for a variety of clients are well worth a look here!

Exciting times! Manufacture of the bunker for 82045, the next member of the extinct Riddles BR 3MT 2‑6‑2 82000 tank class, is now well underway.

Production has recently been sub-contracted to the Boston Lodge engineering workshops of The Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways located in Minffordd, Penrhyndeudraeth and construction is progressing rapidly.

The photographs below have been provided by The 82045 Steam Locomotive Trust and are reproduced with permission of Jon Whalley, Chief Mechanical Engineer at Boston Lodge. Thank you!

Look out for forthcoming articles in Steam Railway (January 2015) and Steam Days (March 2015) describing an unsuccessful bid to rescue a member of the class and also an article regarding the design features of the 82000 fleet.

Both magazines will contain a boiler appeal insert leaflet (copy attached here) and if you can contribute and help get 82045 on the rails and in steam as soon as possible, it would be very much appreciated. Thank you!

Nameplate Handover at Fifty Fund AGM
The Fifty Fund Chairman and Sales Officer Joseph Burr presents Daniel Cartwright of Wulfrun Consulting with the replica Centurion nameplate carried by 50031 during 2014.

During 2014, Wulfrun Consulting sponsored the renumbering and renaming of 50031 ‘Hood’ which took on the identity of long since withdrawn classmate; 50011 ‘Centurion’. Read more.

Profits made from the cost of the sponsorship have been used to help pay bills for repairs to the Fifty Fund’s locomotives.

On Saturday 15th November 2014, following The Fifty Fund Annual General Meeting (AGM) at Kidderminster Railway Museum, a presentation took place at the nearby Severn Valley Railway Diesel Depot. Joseph Burr, Chairman and Sales Officer of The Fifty Fund presented Daniel Cartwright of Wulfrun Consulting with the replica ‘Centurion’ nameplate which had been carried by 50031.

On the day of the AGM, 50031 was actually at Eastleigh Works (ZG) for an overhaul which will include repairs to the Electric Train Heat (ETH) generator, auxiliary generator, bodyside repairs and a full repaint. Pictures were therefore taken in front of 50049 ‘Defiance’.

If you would like to support The Fifty Fund then why not purchase Christmas Cards or The BR Blue Era 2015 Calendar? All the profit from your purchases will go directly to supporting the Fund’s locomotives; 50031 ‘Hood’, 50035 ‘Ark Royal’, 50044 ‘Exeter’ and 50049 ‘Defiance’. Thank you for your support!

AFC Wulfrunians’ warm-up kit sponsor; Wulfrun Consulting was extremely proud to sponsor the Midland Football League (MFL) Premier Division match between AFC Wulfrunians and Coleshill Town at the Castlecroft Stadium in Wolverhampton at the weekend.

The game saw AFC Wulfrunians up against a team who have put themselves forward as one of the favourites to win the league this season. They finished fourth last season and have really built on that with some top signings and some very good results so far.

The match would prove to be a good test for Wulfs who finished 2-1 victors thanks to Jamie King and Craig Gregg who scored either side of a Chris Lloyd strike to give a well-deserved win.

AFC Wulfrunians line up: Brown, Jones, Howells, Sedgemore, Hill, Skedgel, King, Thompson (McDonald 55), Gregg, Stevenson (Haynes 90), Robertson (Rose-Laing 72).

(Left) After the match, Jamie King was awarded the Man of the Match award by Harry Cartwright of Wulfrun Consulting; Jamie’s early goal had set the tone for Wulfrunians’ strong showing.

Wulfrun Consulting was proud to sponsor the locomotive during the event where it appeared renumbered and renamed on one side masquerading as 50011 ‘Centurion’.

Wulfrun Consulting spokesman Daniel Cartwright, a fund shareholder since 2010, said: "I was on the British Rail YTS scheme in 1987 when the news broke on 20th February that a Class 50 had been withdrawn – we checked on TOPS and couldn’t believe it! Some of the lads left work early and headed to Crewe to see its final trip.”
